  • 4 day Pre-trip Luxury 5-Star Safari

Introduction

Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa, at 19,340 ft., is one of the famed, "7-Summits. It sees a lot of traffic, nearly 15,000 people annually. As a result, traffic on the two most common routes, Marangu (70% of all climbers) and Machame (25%) is considerable. Fortunately, there are alternatives to sharing a camp with 300 other people.

We've developed the Kilimanjaro Grand Traverse, a combination of the two best routes on the mountain, taking the Rongai Route up and the remote Lemosho route down. This trip allows us to really enjoy into the varied and unusual ecology of Kilimanjaro. We kick off the trip with a 3 day stay at a 5 star game reserve. The combination of the most elegant way to do Kilimanjaro combined with the an incredible safari experience makes for the ultimate African Off-The-Map adventure.

Description

We arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, meet and drive directly to the 5-star game reserve where we'll spend the next 4 days. On day 5, we drive to Moshi to start our Kilimanjaro experience. The next morning, after registering at Marangu Park Headquarters, we drive to the Rongai trailhead at Nale Moru at 6,396 ft. and trek to Rongai Camp at 8,530 ft. Over successive days, we Trek to Kikelewa Caves at 11,320 ft., to Mawenzi Tarn at 14,210 ft., and to Kibo Campsite at 15,580 ft. On summit Day, we ascend to Gilman's Point 18,650 ft. and go beyond to Uhuru Peak at 19,340 ft., the top of Africa, and descend to Karanga Valley Camp at 13,783 ft. We trek out over the next 3 days to Shira 2 Camp at 12,628 ft, Shira 1 Camp at 11,841 ft., then trek through almost forgotten rain forest trails to Londorossi Gate at 6,547 ft., and drive to Moshi. We depart the next day.
